Scripture Cover and Bag

Since the end of March we have seen the miracle of reading, yes that magical thing that happens sometime in Kindergarten and first grade. We have been working with miss A all the school year and it finally happened. While visiting Darlette we were reading the scriptures and it was miss A's turn and I told her to try to read and she did. She was so happy and excited that she wanted to keep trying, the next few days she got more excited about reading and I told her if she wanted to have her own scriptures, She said yes! so did miss G so I gave them each her own and I promise to make them a tote to take to Church. I was a few days late from Easter, but since I did not said it was their Easter resent it work out Okay.
I also decided to make them a book cover. I took the girls to the quilt shop and I let them choose one print (they both chose the hot pink fabric) and I complemented them with two more prints.

Tree skirt re-do

It was one of the first projects I blogged about it was this tree skirt I made in 2008 (you can find it here). I love the stitchery, but I hated the quilting.
Back then I wasn't skillful about free motion quilting so I did my best but obviously it wasn't enough. Last year I thought about quilting it, but didn't happened. This year as I was putting all the Christmas decorations away I decided it was it so I totally undid the quilting and the finish which wasn't even a bias or even a great finish and I open the skirt for those times when we'll get a natural tree.
Needless to say that I am very pleased with the end result. I love the quilting which gave me a great curve practice and I really enjoy it. I started quilting from the top and I when gradually down to the lower part of the skirt, I also did not cut the skirt until it was all quilted and that help to be more stable and manageable. Now the stitchery can be appreciated better and each stitchery pops by its own.

Have a great week

Pins and Needles

My little girls are always asking me to help with my sewing and stitching. Six months ago Alana tried, but it didn't go well. Last week as I was stitching some names for my Baby Cozy Covers Alana again asked me if I would teach her. I hesitated at first, but then as I explained She said "Mommy, I think I got it!" It wasn't perfect, but hey for a five year old... and do not forget that ten-month-old munching in the background, trying to learn everything her older sister does.

Merry Christmas

Farewell Present

My next door neighbors are going on a LDS Mission to Georgia and as a farewell present I made this for them to remember where is home.

Because is a little one I made it as a little pocket so I can use this acrylic frame I found for 25 cents and like that they can display it any where.

This last one is a stitching my oldest made for grandma and I just pieced and quilted and was my first try on machine quilting.

Ready to cook

As part of my girls Christmas gifts I made a set of Apron and hat for each one. As I started I decided to make two more for the girls of two of hubby's boss'. The last ones where better made (like I got more ideas). The girls love them and we have been cooking and baking quite a lot.
The hat pattern is from Youcanmakethis.com and the apron is from Darlette's imagination.
Make it a wonderful Day!

6 of 7, well more like 6.5...

I thought I was never going to show you this part of the BOM done. I had so much trouble stitching it. First of all it is quite big 20" by 9", then I took it to our trip and guess what? I forgot the needle. and could I found a needle anywhere? NO, no place. oh well. Then I come home and I run out of floss. I went to Joann's and they were out, I went to every single craft store near home and nothing. so frustration all over. While waiting for more floss to be restocked I decided to do all the patchwork needed and that is why I think I am more like a 6.5 parts of 7.

For those in the USA Happy Thanksgiving Eve!

Odette one of the amazing people I have known from this blog is my secret stitcher's angel and I am so happy. Look what she did for me. I have to say that a few months ago I started to like the color orange more and more and as part of the swap I added I like orange. you might have not seen much orange on my work or at least not yet but for some reason (maybe baby Kaylee) I start liking orange a lot.

Learning to Stitch

Last summer I ask my 5 years old to take a video of me showing how to do back stitch to somebody.
She did it and I send the video to my friend, an hour after that I found this...

So she decided to keep going and I made some more pictures for her. After some blocks done I decided to do something to preserve this wonderful job so I make a quilt.

Basically she use a rainbow of colors.
Basicamente ella uso un arcoiris de colores.
And this is de final Quilt
Y este fue el resultado final
If any one wants to teach her little one how to stitch with this pattern or you want it just for fun let me know and I can send you a PDF with the fruits.

I finaly have someting done

After so long I have something done, first of all the first part of "twas a night before Christmas..." BOM that I won from Helen here a picture

Now the thing I did yesterday I made a cover for my ironing board. I used fabric I had from Joann for long time I like the button pattern but, I couldn't find a good use until now.
