Backwards

It seems like sometimes I do things backwards. When I first started quilting and sewing a little bit more than 5 years ago I visit a quilting shop with a beautiful wall hanging quilt perfect for a wedding gift for Monika. As a novice in this art I wasn't sure if I could do it, but Darlette taught me how to do it. I later found out that it was a quite complicated piece. later when I made different projects using paper piecing I really understood I started with the hardest on paper piecing LOL.
Later I made another of this paper piecing wall hanger for my dad when he was called to be a bishop in our Church, and now for my brother's wedding one of the gifts I made was the same Mexico City Temple that I did to dad (he is getting married there). Monika got Spokane, Washington Temple.
You might notice the huge difference in the quilting skills. Also the Mexico City Temple has a lot of detail resembling an Aztec/Mayan pyramid. five years later I can see the progress. I coudn't find a picture of my dad's Temple sorry.
I quilt this using Lea Day's fillings swirling feathers for the sky, I just love it. left turn, right turn for some of the middle triangle, and flames for the grass. I added many other designs to mimic the real building.
I also did trapunto on the temple and it made the whole difference.

Some time ago...

Wow as my last post says time goes fast. If I say I have been busy is an understatement I am still busy but getting more things accomplished. I had kind of a rush to finish things for my brother's wedding so next week I can show what I did.For now here is a kind of messenger purse I made some time ago with a cell phone holder.

Tie

I made a couple ties for some presents. It is hard to find projects for men, so when I saw the pattern on You can sew this I was excited. here is one of the ties.
You can sew this" me emocione mucho. Aqui una de ellas.

A purse for a dear friend

A few weeks ago a dear friend complemented me on my purse, I knew her birthday was coming up soon so I was happy to "find" her gift. So I got the materials and I made this purse for her. I took it last week to Darlette's home and she love it so much that she even asked me to make her one, I had some fabric left so I just bought a little more and I will make her one very soon. I used half moon by moda fabric and this tutorial for margaret's bag by Oh, Fransson!.

Pottery Barn Inspiration

Darlette got inspired by this picture of Pottery Barn for her girls' toy room.

First she started looking for three separate blackboards but they are quite expensive,(she want them magnetic) them on a visit to a thrift store she found this big blackboard big enough for her purposes.

She got some trimming and paint the upper part using sample paints from Home Depot and other places.
The frames for the monograms are from the thrift store, and Darlette machine embroider the monograms and the names. Darlette sanded and painted the frames.
